Six arrested for gambling near Velaandipalayam in Coimbatore

Police arrested six individuals from West Bengal for gambling near a temple in Velaandipalayam, Coimbatore. The suspects were caught red-handed and remanded to judicial custody.


Coimbatore: Six individuals from West Bengal were arrested for gambling near Velaandipalayam in Coimbatore. The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the Sai Baba Colony police station about illegal gambling activities taking place in a vacant plot near the Vinayagar Temple in Velaandipalayam.

Acting on the information, the police team rushed to the spot and caught the suspects red-handed. The arrested individuals were identified as Mukhilesh Ali (29), Sheikh Manohar Ali (31), Sheikh Aslam Ali, Jia Ali (34), Praj Ali (29), and Sheikh Habib (29), all hailing from West Bengal.

The Sai Baba Colony police made the arrests on October 3rd and subsequently produced the six accused before the court on October 4th. They were remanded to judicial custody following the court proceedings.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Coimbatore police to curb illegal gambling activities in the city. The swift action taken by the law enforcement agencies serves as a deterrent to those engaging in such unlawful practices.
