Coimbatore: The Nature Club and Department of Zoology at Bharathiar University, in collaboration with Biogenesis, the students' association of the Zoology Department, organized Wildlife Week Celebrations from September 23 to October 4, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and promote ecological consciousness among students.

The celebrations included a series of inter-departmental competitions such as mobile photography, pencil drawing, quiz, dumb charades, essay writing, rapid identification, and rangoli. Additionally, a debate was held as an intra-departmental event on October 3, 2024, at the Department of Zoology.

Prof. Dr. V. Ramasubramanian delivered the welcome address, while Dr. C. Gunasekaran, the Faculty advisor of the Nature Club, highlighted the importance of Wildlife Week. Dr. S. R. Prabagaran, Professor from the Department of Biotechnology, served as the judge for the debate.

The debate topic, "Are animals on the brink of extinction or humans?" saw eight postgraduate students from the Zoology Department participating enthusiastically. The discussion covered various aspects of species conservation and anthropogenic activities leading to animal extinction. The session lasted for about an hour, with approximately 80 spectators in attendance.

On October 4, 2024, a guest lecture on "Co-existing in the midst of conflict: Human wildlife interactions" was delivered by Dr. N. V. K. Ashraf, Chief Veterinary Officer and Vice President at Wildlife Trust of India, New Delhi. The lecture drew parallels between ancient Tamil literature and the concept of human-animal coexistence, citing examples from Natrinai and Kurunthogai.
