An unidentified person reportedly stole water from the Udumalaipet Canal using a motor and tanker. Junior Engineer Vijay Sekharan filed a complaint at Udumalaipet Police Station, seeking action against the culprit.

Coimbatore: A case of water theft has been reported from the Udumalaipet Canal in Tiruppur district, prompting authorities to file a police complaint. The incident occurred at the 18th kilometer mark of the canal, where an unidentified individual was allegedly caught extracting water illegally.

According to sources, the suspect was seen using a motor pump set up on the canal bank to fill a tanker attached to a tractor. The illegal water extraction has raised concerns about the misuse of irrigation water and the potential impact on local farmers who depend on the canal for their agricultural needs.

Vijay Sekharan, the Junior Engineer of the Udumalaipet Canal, has taken swift action by lodging a formal complaint at the Udumalaipet Police Station. In his complaint, Sekharan has requested the authorities to identify the person responsible for the unlawful water extraction and take appropriate legal action against them.

The incident has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by water management authorities in preventing the unauthorized use of irrigation resources. Local farmers and residents have expressed their concerns over such activities, which could potentially disrupt the water supply for legitimate agricultural purposes.

Police officials have assured that they will investigate the matter thoroughly and take necessary steps to apprehend the culprit. They have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around water bodies and irrigation canals to prevent such incidents in the future.
