Coimbatore International Airport Set for Significant Expansion in Flight Services

Coimbatore International Airport to increase daily departures from 27 to over 30 by October 2024. Passenger count expected to exceed 10,000 per day with new domestic and international flights.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore International Airport, the second largest in Tamil Nadu, is poised for a significant expansion in flight services. By October 2024, the airport will see an increase from 27 to over 30 daily departures, with passenger numbers expected to surpass 10,000 per day.

This growth is attributed to the introduction of new flight services in both domestic and international sectors. The airport is also experiencing exponential growth in cargo volumes, both domestic and international, following the introduction of new flights.

In the domestic sector, IndiGo has increased its Coimbatore-Hyderabad service to 26 weekly flights, with four daily flights except on Thursdays and Saturdays. From October 27, this will further increase to 28 weekly flights. IndiGo will also operate 28 weekly services to Bangalore from October 1, offering four daily services on this route.

A new daily service to Goa is set to commence in October, operated by IndiGo using an ATR aircraft. This will be the only ATR aircraft based in Coimbatore.

The international sector is seeing equally impressive growth. IndiGo has rescheduled its direct flight service to Abu Dhabi and announced daily non-stop flights between Coimbatore and Singapore starting October 27.

From October, domestic services at Coimbatore airport will include 29 flights operated by Air India (AI-UK) and IndiGo. These will connect Coimbatore to Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Goa.

International services in October will see flights to Singapore operated by Scoot and IndiGo (7 weekly each), Sharjah by Air Arabia (5 weekly), and Abu Dhabi by IndiGo (3 weekly).

Air India will provide one-stop connectivity from Coimbatore to long-haul international destinations via Delhi and Mumbai. These include London, New York, Newark, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Frankfurt, and Paris.

Airport authorities are hopeful that direct flights to Colombo and Kuala Lumpur will commence soon, further expanding Coimbatore's international connectivity.
