Isha Opposition Coalition Questions Lack of Action Against Doctor Arrested in POCSO Case

The Isha Opposition Coalition demands answers regarding the lack of further action against Dr. Saravana Moorthy, arrested under POCSO Act for alleged sexual harassment of school girls during a mobile medical camp in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: The Isha Opposition Coalition has raised questions about the lack of further action against Dr. Saravana Moorthy, who was arrested on the 6th under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually harassing government school girls during a mobile medical camp organized by the Isha Yoga Center.

Members of the Isha Opposition Coalition, including Ramakrishnan, General Secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidian Federation, environmental activist Piyush Manush, and Professor Kamarasu, addressed the media at the Coimbatore Press Club today.

Environmental activist Piyush Manush pointed out that according to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Yojana scheme, a female doctor must be present to examine female students. He questioned how Dr. Saravana Moorthy was allowed to enter the school. Manush emphasized that this issue needs to be addressed by the Health and Education departments.

Manush also mentioned that the mobile clinic used for the medical camp has not yet been seized. He alleged that the investigating officer went on leave as soon as the case investigation began, effectively halting the proceedings. He questioned the apparent sympathy towards Isha in this matter.

The activist further revealed that an FIR was filed against Isha at the Coimbatore Perur Police Station in 2021 for a gang rape case, but no action has been taken on that FIR. When questioned about this, it was claimed that the woman withdrew her complaint. However, Manush clarified that under the law, a woman cannot withdraw such a complaint.

Accusing the police of handling the case against the doctor sluggishly, Piyush Manush stated that if justice is not served in this case, it would bring disrepute to Coimbatore. He demanded that proper justice be delivered and that the case investigation be conducted thoroughly.
