BJP Official Booked for Spreading Rumors About Palani Panchamirtham

BJP's labor wing district vice-president Selvakumar faces legal action for spreading false information about Palani Temple's Panchamirtham procurement. Temple administration files complaint against BJP officials for rumor-mongering.

Coimbatore: A case has been registered against a BJP official for spreading rumors about the Palani Panchamirtham. Selvakumar, the BJP labor wing district vice-president from Coimbatore, has been booked under two sections based on a complaint filed by the temple administration.

Selvakumar had been spreading false information on social media platforms, claiming that the Palani Temple was purchasing ghee from a private company in Dindigul. The temple administration filed a complaint against BJP officials Selvakumar and Vinoj P Selvam for propagating this rumor.

The Dindigul police have taken action based on the complaint filed by the temple administration. This incident follows a previous arrest of Selvakumar on April 13, 2023, by the Coimbatore police for allegedly making derogatory comments on social media and inciting violence.

The cyber crime police in Coimbatore have been closely monitoring social media for posts inciting violence. Selvakumar had been making derogatory comments about the Minister of Electricity and allegedly inciting violence between two groups on Twitter.

A DMK IT cell member, Suresh Kumar, had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police in Coimbatore city regarding Selvakumar's posts. Investigations revealed that a case was already pending against Selvakumar in 2022, for which he was out on anticipatory bail.

Police officials stated that the posts and retweets on Selvakumar's Twitter page have triggered various issues. He is also being investigated in connection with a cheating case against him in Karur district.
