Village Administrative Officers Protest in Pollachi Against Additional Crop Survey Duties

Village Administrative Officers in Pollachi staged a demonstration against the additional computerized crop survey duties assigned to them, demanding the withdrawal of these extra responsibilities.

Coimbatore: Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) in Pollachi staged a demonstration on Wednesday, protesting against the additional responsibility of conducting computerized crop surveys, a task originally assigned to the Agriculture Department.

The Tamil Nadu government has recently introduced a computerized crop survey system to assess crops in agricultural lands. While this task was initially meant to be carried out by officials from the Agriculture Department, it has now been delegated to the VAOs of respective areas.

The protestors, organized by the Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers Association, gathered in front of the Sub-Collector's office in Pollachi. They argued that this additional duty not only increases their workload but also hampers their ability to perform their regular duties effectively. The demonstration saw participation from numerous VAOs from Pollachi and Kinathukadavu regions.

During the protest, slogans were raised emphasizing their demands. The VAOs pointed out that no equipment has been provided to carry out these additional tasks. They also stressed the need for appointing more personnel to handle the increased workload.

The protestors urged the government to reconsider its decision and withdraw the additional responsibility of computerized crop surveys from the VAOs. They emphasized that these surveys should be conducted by the Agriculture Department officials as originally planned, allowing the VAOs to focus on their primary responsibilities without undue burden.
