Police Seize Banned Tobacco Products in Sullimedu Near Anamalai, Conduct Investigation

Police in Pollachi seized 25 kg of banned tobacco products in Sullimedu near Anamalai during a routine patrol. One suspect, John from Anamalai, was arrested and is under investigation.


Coimbatore: In a crackdown on illegal tobacco trade, police seized a significant quantity of banned tobacco products in Sullimedu near Anamalai, Pollachi. The operation, part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale of prohibited tobacco items in Pollachi and surrounding areas, resulted in the arrest of one suspect.

Assistant Inspector Muruganathan and his team were conducting a routine patrol in the Anamalai area when they received information about the sale of banned tobacco products in Sullimedu. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police carried out a thorough inspection of the area.



During the search, law enforcement officials uncovered approximately 25 kilograms of banned tobacco products. The seized items are estimated to be worth a considerable sum in the black market. Following the discovery, the police arrested a man identified as John, a resident of Anamalai.

The suspect was taken into custody around 3 PM and is currently undergoing interrogation. Police are investigating to uncover more details about the source of the contraband and any potential wider network involved in the illegal tobacco trade.

This seizure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating the sale and distribution of banned tobacco products in the region. The police have intensified their efforts to crack down on such illegal activities to protect public health and enforce the law.
