Forest Department Intensifies Efforts to Capture Crocodiles Near Mettupalayam

Forest officials are working to capture two crocodiles spotted in a pond near residential areas in Pattakaranur village, Mettupalayam. The operation involves draining water from the pond to safely catch the reptiles.

Coimbatore: The Forest Department has launched an intensive operation to capture crocodiles that have been sighted in a pond near residential areas in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district. The presence of two crocodiles in a pond at Pattakaranur village, under Pallepalayam Panchayat, has caused concern among local residents.

Responding to persistent appeals from the public, the Sirumugai Forest Department initiated efforts to capture the crocodiles. A team led by Sirumugai Forest Range Officer Manoj Kumar is currently engaged in the operation at the site.

The pond, which has two areas with significant water accumulation, is being drained using pump-set motors. This strategy aims to reduce the water level, making it easier for the forest officials to locate and safely capture the crocodiles.

More than ten forest department officials have been deployed around the pond where the crocodiles were reportedly spotted. They are maintaining strict vigilance to ensure the reptiles do not escape during the operation. The team is optimistic about capturing the crocodiles once the water level is sufficiently lowered.

Forest officials have stated that all necessary precautions have been taken to prevent the crocodiles from leaving the area. They expect to successfully capture the reptiles as soon as the water draining process is completed, ensuring the safety of both the animals and the local residents.
