4 kg of Ganja Seized During Police Check at Coimbatore Railway Station

Police conducted a search operation at Coimbatore Railway Station on September 16, seizing 4 kg of ganja from an unattended baggage in Danapur Express. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking through trains.


Coimbatore: In a successful operation against drug trafficking, the police seized 4 kg of ganja during a check at the Coimbatore Railway Station on September 16. The operation was conducted following intelligence reports about the smuggling of narcotics, including ganja, from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Coimbatore via trains.

The search operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayaraj from the Narcotics Control Bureau. Inspector Kumaresh and Sub-Inspector Gomathi led the police team, which was assisted by a sniffer dog named Tiger.

During the search, the police thoroughly checked the Danapur Express and Sabari Express trains arriving from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, along with the belongings of passengers. The team discovered 4 kg of ganja in an unattended baggage in one of the compartments of the Danapur Express.

Speaking about the operation, officials from the Coimbatore Narcotics Control Bureau stated, "We have been monitoring and intercepting ganja being smuggled from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Kerala via Coimbatore through trains. In the past eight months, we have seized approximately 300 kg of ganja and arrested 20 individuals involved in drug trafficking."
