Congress Leader Selvaperunthagai Criticizes Finance Minister's Mudra Scheme Claims

Nirmala Sitharaman stated that 20 lakh people in Coimbatore have benefited from the Mudra scheme. However, he highlighted that the total population of Coimbatore is only 34 lakhs, making the claim seem implausible.

Coimbatore: Congress party leader Selvaperunthagai has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's recent statements about the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) scheme in Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu.

Selvaperunthagai pointed out a significant discrepancy in the Finance Minister's claims. According to him, Sitharaman stated that 20 lakh people in Coimbatore have benefited from the Mudra scheme. However, he highlighted that the total population of Coimbatore is only 34 lakhs, making the claim seem implausible.

The Congress leader further questioned Sitharaman's assertion that 5.6 crore people in Tamil Nadu have Mudra accounts. He countered this by stating that the total number of family cards in Tamil Nadu is only 2.25 crores, casting doubt on the accuracy of the Finance Minister's figures.

Selvaperunthagai expressed disappointment that the Finance Minister, who refused to apologize for allegedly disrespecting a Coimbatore industrialist, has now made what he terms as "blatant lies." He mentioned that when journalists questioned these figures, Sitharaman reportedly evaded by saying she would look into it and respond later.

The Congress leader suggested that it is due to such questioning that the Finance Minister appears to dislike Tamil Nadu and Tamils. He concluded by stating that if one were to examine all the statistics provided by the BJP, they would find many such alleged inaccuracies.
