Coimbatore: Two men, including an auto driver, were arrested by the Podanur police for threatening a shopkeeper and demanding money at knifepoint near Podanur in Coimbatore.

The incident occurred on September 12 when Murali (25), a native of Pudukkottai district who runs a petty shop on Sarada Mill Road in Podanur, was standing near his shop. Two men approached him and asked for money to buy alcohol. When Murali refused, the duo became agitated and threatened him with a knife.

Shocked by the sudden turn of events, Murali shouted for help. Hearing his cries, nearby residents rushed to the scene, causing the two assailants to flee. Following the incident, Murali filed a complaint with the Podanur police station.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of two individuals: Nisham (33), a laborer from Noorabath in Podanur, and Ahamed Sameer (32), an auto driver from Podanur.

The swift action by the police in apprehending the suspects has brought relief to the local community, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order.
