'GST Council decisions require state representatives' approval despite central government leadership' - Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA Coimbatore South

Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South and BJP National Women's Wing President, inaugurated 'Vriksh' project and discussed various local and national issues in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

Coimbatore: Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South and BJP National Women's Wing President, inaugurated the 'Vriksh' project, an initiative to develop mini-forests, at T.A. Ramalingam Chettiar Higher Secondary School on Wednesday.

The project is organized by the People's Service Center, a voluntary organization.

Speaking at the event, Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted that for over a year, the 'Vriksh' project has been creating Miyawaki forests in government schools, government-aided schools, and parks within the Coimbatore South constituency. She emphasized that this initiative encourages the younger generation to work towards carbon neutrality.

Vanathi Srinivasan mentioned that under the guidance of the Union Finance Minister, officials from 15 central government departments are meeting various industry representatives at the Codissia complex in Coimbatore to address their concerns. She noted that this is the first such event in India and expressed gratitude to the Union Finance Minister for facilitating it.

The MLA announced that through the Coimbatore People's Service Center, free tailoring training has been provided to 1,500 underprivileged women over the past 18 months. She informed that a program to distribute free sewing machines to these women will be held tomorrow, with the Union Finance Minister as the chief guest.

Regarding BJP membership drives, Vanathi Srinivasan stated that these are taking place across the country, with a program scheduled for tomorrow in the Sulur area of Coimbatore district, which the Union Minister will attend.

When asked about VCK's anti-liquor conference, she said that the BJP has conducted various programs and protests for liquor prohibition in Tamil Nadu. She criticized Thirumavalavan's stance, suggesting that the conference might be an attempt to prove VCK as a new political force or to send a message to their alliance partner, DMK.

Vanathi Srinivasan welcomed the Chief Minister's foreign trip if it benefits Tamil Nadu and praised the Union Finance Minister's support for the Kongu region's development. She highlighted Coimbatore's rapid progress in industrial growth and job creation.

Addressing GST issues, she emphasized that GST is a journey shared by both central and state governments. She asserted that the BJP has become an unshakeable force in Tamil Nadu, outperforming major parties in many places during the last election.

The MLA clarified that while the central government leads the GST Council, taxes can only be imposed with the approval of state representatives. She supported the state government's encouragement of car racing, stating that Coimbatore is India's motor sports capital, but stressed that such events should not inconvenience the public.

Regarding the Manipur situation, Vanathi Srinivasan said that the government is taking various measures to control the long-standing issue between two groups, with the Union Home Minister directly overseeing the matter.

She also addressed concerns about sexual harassment in colleges, noting that students are continuously reporting incidents and requesting action without revealing their identities. Vanathi Srinivasan expressed worry over the perceived lack of safety for women and the elderly in Tamil Nadu.
