Coimbatore: A sudden pipeline burst near Annur in Coimbatore district led to a massive waste of drinking water, with thousands of liters flowing onto the roads like a river. The incident occurred in the main pipeline supplying water to various panchayat areas in the Annur region.

The drinking water pipeline, which carries water from the Bhavani River in Mettupalayam to villages in the Annur Panchayat Union area, experienced a rupture between Kariyampalayam and Pillaiyarpalayam. What started as a small leak quickly escalated into a major burst, resulting in a water jet rising over 3 feet high.

As a result of the rupture, thousands of liters of potable water were wasted, flowing into roadside drains and sewers. Local residents promptly alerted the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) officials and panchayat administrators about the situation.

Upon receiving the information, authorities immediately shut off the water supply to the affected pipeline. TWAD Board officials are currently engaged in efforts to repair the damaged section of the pipeline and restore normal water supply to the area.

The incident has raised concerns about water conservation and the need for regular maintenance of water supply infrastructure. Local residents hope for a swift resolution to ensure uninterrupted water supply to their communities.
