MLA Vanathi Srinivasan Urges CM Stalin to Greet Vinayagar Chaturthi Celebrants

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan calls on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to extend Vinayagar Chaturthi greetings, criticizing the DMK government's stance on Hindu festivals and processions.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to extend greetings to those celebrating Vinayagar Chaturthi. In a statement released on her Facebook page on September 7, Srinivasan expressed her wishes to all celebrating the festival while highlighting its historical and cultural significance.

Srinivasan emphasized that Hindus worldwide begin any endeavor by worshipping Lord Ganesha. She recalled how Bal Gangadhar Tilak transformed the Indian independence movement into a people's movement by initiating Vinayagar processions, which continue to be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country.

The MLA accused the DMK government of attempting to hinder this fervor in Tamil Nadu by imposing various restrictions on Vinayagar Chaturthi processions. She stated, "The DMK government, which only opposes Hinduism, is doing everything possible to create difficulties for Vinayagar Chaturthi processions."

Srinivasan criticized the government's actions as a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of worship. She said, "While claiming to protect the constitution, the DMK government is violating it by infringing on Hindus' right to worship. This deserves strong condemnation."

The BJP leader acknowledged that the DMK might have reservations about Hinduism and Hindu deities but stressed that the government should serve all citizens. She pointed out that while Chief Minister Stalin extends greetings for festivals of other religions, his refusal to do so for Hindu festivals is disrespectful to Hindus.

Srinivasan concluded by stating, "Chief Minister Stalin may not personally believe in Vinayagar Chaturthi. However, as the Chief Minister, he should respect the people celebrating it. Stalin, who organized the Muthamizh Murugan conference, should at least this time extend greetings for Vinayagar Chaturthi."
