Two Men Arrested in Coimbatore for Running International Flesh Trade Racket

Coimbatore police arrested Sikkandar Basha and S. Stephan on September 05, 2024, for operating an international flesh trade racket. The duo allegedly brought foreign women to India for illegal activities.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore police have arrested two men for allegedly running an international flesh trade racket. Sikkandar Basha, 38, a native of Cumbum in Theni district, and his manager S. Stephan, 32, from Marthandam in Kanniyakumari district, were apprehended on September 05, 2024 (Thursday).

According to the police, Basha had been operating the flesh trade racket from Kolkata. He reportedly used his international connections to bring women from foreign countries, including Russia, to India for illegal activities. The investigators also claim that Basha had been funding some rowdy gangs in Tamil Nadu.

The Coimbatore police team had tracked Basha to Kolkata a week ago, but he managed to flee to Dubai. Upon his return to Chennai two days later, he traveled to Madurai to meet his family. It was there that the police finally apprehended him and brought him to Coimbatore for further investigation.

In a related development, Basha's manager Stephan was arrested by the Race Course police in Coimbatore on the same day. Stephan was wanted for robbing a man of ₹4,500 at Avarampalayam on Wednesday night. The police reported that Stephan suffered a fracture on his right leg while attempting to escape during the arrest.

The arrests have shed light on the extensive network of the flesh trade racket, which spans across multiple states and even international borders. The Coimbatore police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the operation and any potential accomplices.
