Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the main stretch of the Ukkadam-Athupalam Flyover on August 9, 2024. The project, which began in 2018, was largely completed in July 2024. The 3.8-kilometer flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs. 481.95 crore, required additional ramps for vehicles to access the Sungam area.
During the inauguration, the ramps connecting the flyover to Sungam via Valankulam were still under construction. The authorities had planned to complete these ramps by the end of August, and work has been progressing rapidly to meet this deadline.
The newly completed ramps include both an up-ramp and a down-ramp, facilitating smooth traffic flow between the Ukkadam Flyover and Sungam Bypass.
