43rd State Conference of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Workers' Union Held Near Sulur, Coimbatore

The 43rd State Conference of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Workers' Union was held on August 31 near Sulur, Coimbatore. The conference addressed key issues and demands of the workers.


Coimbatore: The 43rd State Conference of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Workers' Union was held today, August 31, at the Puttadev Bhattacharya Memorial Hall (SRS Marriage Hall) on Kalangal Road, Sulur, near Coimbatore. Francis, the president of the Water Board Workers' Union, hoisted the conference flag and delivered the keynote address.

M. Sasikumar, the Joint Secretary, proposed a resolution paying tribute to deceased employees. The Assistant President, Saktivel, delivered the welcome address. CITU District Secretary Krishnamurthy gave the inaugural speech. General Secretary Saravanan presented the union's work report and initiated a discussion among the representatives. Treasurer Rajendran submitted a written income and expenditure report.

Assistant President Balakumar and Iyappan, the Assistant President of the Central Organization of Water and Drainage Board Employees, delivered special addresses. Union executive Philip gave the vote of thanks.

The conference, attended by over a hundred workers from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Nilgiris districts, passed 10 crucial resolutions. These included demands for regularizing contract workers, filling vacant positions, immediate employment for heirs of those who died on duty, providing positions based on educational qualifications for those appointed on hereditary basis, offering supervisor and junior engineer positions to electrical diploma holders, abandoning outsourcing for maintaining joint drinking water projects, managing maintenance work directly by the board to ensure safe drinking water, providing dearness allowance increases similar to government employees, and granting retirement benefits on the day of retirement.

Speaking to reporters, Francis, the president of the Water Board Workers' Union, stated, "Our demands are reasonable. The government should accept our demands and take immediate action." He further urged the government to take prompt action considering the welfare of the workers.
