Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi leader Eswaran comments on Avinashi-Athikadavu project and BJP's role

KMDK leader Eswaran praises DMK government for Avinashi-Athikadavu project implementation, criticizes BJP for claiming credit without financial support, and calls for expansion of the scheme during a press meet in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Eswaran, the leader of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK), addressed reporters at a star hotel near Singanallur in Coimbatore, expressing his views on the Avinashi-Athikadavu project and various political developments.

Eswaran commended the DMK government for successfully implementing the Avinashi-Athikadavu project, which had been a 60-year-long struggle. He recalled that former Chief Minister Karunanidhi had ordered a study for this project in 2009, but subsequent administrations did not follow through. The KMDK leader highlighted his party's continuous efforts and protests to push for the project's implementation.

Acknowledging the AIADMK government's role, Eswaran mentioned that 67% of the project work was completed during their tenure. He thanked Chief Minister Stalin for resolving land-use permission issues and bringing the project to fruition. Eswaran also suggested including more tanks in the Avinashi-Athikadavu Scheme-2 to ensure water reaches all areas.

Criticizing the BJP, Eswaran pointed out that the party announced protests only after learning about the project's launch. He questioned the BJP's claim to fame in the project, stating that the central government had not provided any financial assistance despite requests from 2016 to 2018.

Eswaran challenged BJP leaders to secure funding from the central government for projects like Anaimalayaru, Pandiyaru, and Punnapuzha schemes. He also urged them to obtain approval for the Coimbatore Metro Rail project and expansion of the Coimbatore Airport.

The KMDK leader concluded by calling on BJP representatives to fulfill their election promises, reminding them that 4.5 lakh people had voted for their manifesto. He urged them to speak with the Prime Minister to bring more projects and development to the region.
