90 Liters of Expired Soft Drinks Seized from 23 Shops in Coimbatore

Food Safety Department officials in Coimbatore conducted raids on 253 shops, seizing 90 liters of expired soft drinks from 23 outlets. The operation aimed to curb the sale of outdated beverages and those lacking proper labeling.



Coimbatore: The Food Safety Department in Coimbatore district has confiscated 90 liters of expired soft drinks from 23 shops. These beverages were either past their expiration date or lacked complete labeling information.

Acting on information about the sale of expired soft drinks in Coimbatore district, food safety officials conducted inspections at both wholesale and retail outlets in various areas including Gandhipuram, VOC Park, Gandhi Park, RS Puram, Peelamedu, Ganapathy, Saibaba Colony, Vadavalli, Sundarapuram, Kinathukadavu, Thondamuthur, and Pollachi.



The inspection covered a total of 253 establishments, including 213 retail shops, 22 manufacturing units, and 18 wholesalers. During these checks, food safety officers discovered expired soft drinks and beverages without complete label information in 23 shops. Subsequently, they seized 90 liters of such drinks and imposed fines on the offenders.

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken under the Food Safety Act against those selling expired soft drinks.
