Petition Filed for SC/ST Act Case in Arunthathiyar Youth Murder

Democratic Rights Coalition submits petition to Coimbatore District Collector demanding registration of SC/ST Act case in the murder of an Arunthathiyar youth in Pollachi, seeking justice and arrest of all accused.

Coimbatore: The Democratic Rights Coalition has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector demanding the registration of a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (SC/ST Act) in the murder of an Arunthathiyar youth in Pollachi. The petition also calls for the arrest of all individuals involved in the murder case.

On August 4, Aravind, a young man from the Arunthathiyar community in Suleswaran Patti area of Pollachi, was brutally murdered. Two individuals, Faisal and Vimal, surrendered at the Pollachi Mahalingapuram Police Station, claiming responsibility for the murder. However, the Democratic Rights Coalition alleges that the police have concealed and distorted various facts in the First Information Report (FIR) filed for this case.

The coalition accuses the police of failing to register the case under the SC/ST Act despite knowing that the victim belonged to the Arunthathiyar community. They also claim that other accused individuals - Praveen Kumar, Tamil Selvan, and Guruprasad - were not included as suspects in the murder case.

Furthermore, the coalition alleges that the police have recorded incorrect information about the location of the murder and forcibly obtained the signature of the victim's wife, Haripuvaneshwari.

In light of these allegations, the Democratic Rights Coalition has put forth several demands. They urge for the case to be registered under the SC/ST Act, the arrest of all accused individuals, compensation for the affected family, and the closure of related liquor shops in the area.

The petition seeks immediate action from the district administration to ensure justice for the murdered Arunthathiyar youth and his family.
