Chief Minister to Inaugurate Athikadavu-Avinashi Project via Video Conference on August 17 - Minister S. Muthusamy in Erode

Minister S. Muthusamy announces CM M.K. Stalin's virtual inauguration of the Athikadavu-Avinashi Groundwater Recharge and Drinking Water Supply Scheme on August 17, benefiting 1,045 water bodies across three districts.

Coimbatore: Minister for Housing and Urban Development S. Muthusamy announced on Thursday that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the Athikadavu-Avinashi Groundwater Recharge and Drinking Water Supply Scheme through video conferencing on August 17.

Speaking to the media at Bhavanisagar, Muthusamy stated that upon commissioning, the project will supply water to all 1,045 water bodies across Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore districts. He highlighted the challenges faced during the project's implementation, particularly after the DMK came to power in 2021.

The Minister explained that land acquisition for laying main pipelines from pumping stations one to three had not been completed when the new government took office, causing delays in the project. "The government engaged in individual discussions with farmers, addressed their concerns, and successfully laid the pipelines. These works were completed in January 2023," Muthusamy said.

He further revealed that during the trial run, most of the 83 feeder lines were found to be damaged. However, repair works were promptly carried out, and the problems were rectified. The Minister's statements indicate that the project is now ready for its official launch, marking a significant milestone in improving water infrastructure across the three districts.

The Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme is expected to play a crucial role in groundwater recharge and ensure a stable drinking water supply to the beneficiary areas. The project's completion and imminent inauguration represent the government's commitment to addressing water scarcity issues in the region.
