CM Stalin Inaugurates New Buildings at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated new buildings worth ₹41.57 crore at Bharathiar University, housing departments of Life Sciences and Social Sciences Schools, enhancing infrastructure for research and education.


Coimbatore: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday inaugurated new buildings at Bharathiar University, marking a significant enhancement in the institution's infrastructure. The buildings, constructed at a cost of ₹41.57 crore, are designed to house various departments of the Schools of Life Sciences and Social Sciences.



The newly inaugurated facilities feature state-of-the-art classrooms, conference halls, research laboratories, libraries, office buildings, and dedicated spaces for heads of departments. This additional infrastructure is expected to provide each department with its own building, greatly improving the university's capacity for education and research.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudy and other cabinet ministers, highlighting the importance of this development for higher education in the region.

The School of Life Sciences, which benefits from these new facilities, encompasses several key departments including Botany, Bioinformatics, Environmental Sciences, Zoology, Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, and Textiles and Apparel Design. These departments are now equipped with modern facilities to enhance their research and teaching capabilities.

Similarly, the School of Social Sciences, also housed in the new buildings, includes departments of Social Work, Sociology and Population Studies, Psychology, Women's Studies, and Library Sciences. This expansion is expected to boost the university's capacity in social science research and education.

Bharathiar University, known for its comprehensive academic offerings, boasts a total of 13 Schools and 37 research departments. The addition of these new buildings represents a significant step forward in the university's mission to provide quality education and foster cutting-edge research across various disciplines.

University sources have expressed optimism that this infrastructural boost will pave the way for enhanced academic experiences and research opportunities for students and faculty alike. The new facilities are expected to attract more research projects and collaborations, further cementing Bharathiar University's position as a leading institution of higher learning in Tamil Nadu.
