World Breastfeeding Week: Parents of healthy breastfed babies honored in Pollachi

Pollachi hosted an event for World Breastfeeding Week, rewarding parents who successfully breastfed their children, promoting awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for infant health.

Coimbatore: In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, an event was held in Pollachi to honor and encourage parents who have successfully breastfed their children, resulting in healthier infants. The program aimed to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits for child health.

World Breastfeeding Week is observed annually during the first week of August, featuring various awareness programs highlighting the necessity of breastfeeding. As part of this year's celebrations, a rally was organized to educate the public about the significance of breastfeeding.

Following the rally, a competition was held for parents whose children had shown improved health through breastfeeding.

Women who had consistently breastfed their babies for the first six months after birth were especially recognized and presented with prizes as a form of encouragement.

Obstetricians at the event emphasized the crucial importance of breastfeeding for the first six months after birth. They advised that continuing breastfeeding along with complementary foods for up to two years can significantly boost the child's immune system, protecting them from various diseases and ensuring overall good health.

The medical professionals also expressed concern over the declining rates of breastfeeding among working women. They warned that substituting breast milk with various alternatives such as cow's milk or powdered milk formulas could put infants at risk of multiple infections and health issues. The event served as a platform to reinforce the irreplaceable benefits of breastfeeding and encourage mothers to prioritize this natural and beneficial practice for their children's health.
