Four arrested within 12 hours in lawyer murder case - SP reveals financial dispute as motive

Coimbatore police arrested four suspects within 12 hours for the murder of lawyer Udayakumar near Chettipalayam. The killing stemmed from a financial dispute over Rs. 30 lakhs, according to SP Badri Narayanan.


Coimbatore: In a swift action, the Coimbatore police arrested four suspects within 12 hours for the murder of lawyer Udayakumar near Chettipalayam. The incident, which occurred yesterday, saw a group of four individuals allegedly killing the lawyer. Today, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan addressed the media regarding the case.

SP Badri Narayanan stated, "We formed eight special teams to investigate the murder. Within 12 hours, we managed to arrest four individuals." The investigation revealed that all four suspects are from Coimbatore. Two of them, Selvan alias Ayyanan and Gautham, were traveling in the car with lawyer Udayakumar when the incident occurred.



According to the SP, a heated argument broke out between Selvan and Udayakumar over the repayment of Rs. 30 lakhs that Selvan had given to the lawyer earlier. As the argument escalated, they stopped the car near Chettipalayam. Selvan then called two of his friends, Arunkumar and Abhishek, to the location. Subsequently, all four individuals - Selvan, Gautham, Arunkumar, and Abhishek - allegedly murdered lawyer Udayakumar.

The police have seized a car, a two-wheeler, a machete, and a knife in connection with the murder case. "The sole motive behind this murder appears to be a financial dispute," the SP emphasized.



SP Badri Narayanan also addressed other law and order issues in the district. He mentioned that murder cases have decreased this year compared to previous years. The SP highlighted that special teams are monitoring social media activities. He also stated that measures are being taken to monitor students in colleges, and individuals involved in drug peddling are being arrested regularly.
