A college student was brutally attacked by five individuals near a gym in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore. The assault, stemming from a previous altercation, left the victim with severe injuries.

Coimbatore: Five individuals have been booked for assaulting a college student with a wooden log near a gym in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore. The incident, which occurred on August 1, has left the victim with severe injuries.

Viswanathan (20), a third-year BSc student from Chinnakuppam, Gopinathan Patti near Pappirettipatti in Dharmapuri district, was the target of the attack. He is currently residing in a private college hostel in Coimbatore.

The assault is believed to be the result of a previous altercation involving Viswanathan's younger brother, Sabari. A few days ago, Sabari was reportedly attacked by a man named Palani from the same area. When Sabari informed Viswanathan about the incident, Viswanathan confronted Palani, leading to animosity between them.

On August 1, as Viswanathan was walking near a gym on Saravanampatti Road, he was approached by Palani and four others. The group verbally abused Viswanathan before physically assaulting him with a wooden log. The attack left Viswanathan with severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Bystanders rescued Viswanathan and admitted him to a nearby private hospital for treatment. A complaint was filed at the Peelamedu Police Station regarding the incident.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against five individuals: Palani, Gautham, Anbu, Sarjith, and Duwarakesh. Investigations are currently underway to apprehend the suspects and gather more details about the attack.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students in the area, prompting calls for increased security measures and swift action against the perpetrators.
