Coimbatore: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members in Coimbatore's Peelamedu area celebrated the Supreme Court's recent verdict upholding the 3% internal reservation for the Arunthathiyar community within the Scheduled Castes quota in Tamil Nadu. The reservation was introduced by the Tamil Nadu government in 2009 during the tenure of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

To mark this historic judgment, which came after a prolonged legal battle, the DMK's Peelamedu Area-1 organized a public event on Thursday evening at 5 PM in Nehru Nagar.

Durai Senthamizh Selvan, the Secretary of Peelamedu Area-1, distributed sweets to the public, expressing joy over the court's decision.

The event was held in the presence of A. Madasamy, the 26th Ward Unit Secretary. Several party functionaries attended the celebration, including Lakshmi, the Deputy Secretary of the area; Jayaraj, the District Representative; V. Duraisamy; K. Manigandan, the District Deputy Organizer of the Youth Wing; K.C. Ramesh Kumar, the District Deputy Organizer of the Traders' Wing; and ward-level executives Gurusamy, Anusiya, Thomas Thurai, Thagadur Selvam, Velusamy, Boopathi, Venkatesh, Karthik, Ranjith, Sundararaj, Ananthi, and Casting Natarajan. Many party comrades and pioneers also participated in the event.
