School Students and Public Push-Start Broken Down Bus in Pollachi

A government bus broke down in the middle of the road in Pollachi, causing inconvenience to passengers. School students and Congress party members pushed the bus to restart it, highlighting the need for better maintenance of public transport.

Coimbatore: In a display of community spirit, school students and members of the public came together to push-start a broken-down government bus in Pollachi, Coimbatore district. The incident, which occurred on Thiruvalluvar Thidal road, has sparked discussions about the maintenance of public transport vehicles in the region.

The government bus, bearing the number 51A, had departed from the Pollachi Central Bus Stand with passengers on board. As it was traveling via Thiruvalluvar Thidal, the bus suddenly broke down in the middle of the road. Despite the driver's attempts to restart the vehicle, it failed to self-start.

Witnessing the situation, school students who were passengers on the bus, along with Congress party members who were coincidentally holding a demonstration nearby, volunteered to help.

They first attempted to push the bus from behind, but when this proved unsuccessful, they moved to the front of the vehicle. Their combined efforts finally succeeded in push-starting the bus, much to the relief of the passengers.

This incident has highlighted the recurring issue of frequent breakdowns in government buses operating in the area. Over 50 government buses run from Pollachi to various rural and urban areas including Anaimalai, Negamam, Bettathapatti, and Aliyar. However, there has been an increase in the number of breakdowns, causing inconvenience to commuters.

In light of this event, social activists have called upon the State Transport Corporation to ensure proper and regular maintenance of government buses. They emphasize that such incidents not only disrupt travel plans but also pose potential safety risks to passengers.

The timely intervention of the students and local citizens in this instance has been praised, but it has also underscored the need for more reliable public transportation services in the region.
