Flood Alert in Bhavani River: Police and State Disaster Response Force on Guard at Mettupalayam Vanabhadrakali Amman Temple

Bhavani River swells as Pillur Dam reaches full capacity. Police and SDRF deployed at Vanabhadrakali Amman Temple during Aadi Kundam festival to ensure public safety amidst flood warnings.

Coimbatore: The Pillur Dam in Mettupalayam reached its full capacity of 100 feet around 9 PM last night due to heavy rains in its catchment areas. This marks the fourth time the dam has filled up during the months of June and July.

As a precautionary measure, the excess water from Pillur Dam is being released directly into the Bhavani River.

Consequently, the district administration has issued a flood warning to the public residing along the banks of the Bhavani River.

Authorities have imposed restrictions, prohibiting people from entering the river for swimming, fishing, or boating.

The Vanabhadrakali Amman Temple, situated on the banks of the Bhavani River, is celebrating its annual Aadi Kundam festival today, July 30. Thousands of devotees have gathered at the temple for the occasion.

In light of the flood alert, police personnel are monitoring the temple's steps leading to the river and the surrounding areas to prevent anyone from entering the water. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been deployed to assist in maintaining safety and preventing any untoward incidents during the festival.
