Red Alert Issued for Coimbatore and Nilgiris Districts Due to Heavy Rainfall

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. The alert comes as the Southwest monsoon intensifies in neighboring Kerala.

Coimbatore: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. This alert comes as the Southwest monsoon intensifies in the neighboring state of Kerala, where landslides and floods have already claimed over 80 lives in the Wayanad district.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Center's bulletin released on July 30, a red alert has been issued for today in the hilly regions of Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for these two districts for the next three days - tomorrow, the day after, and August 2, forecasting heavy rainfall.

The intensification of the Southwest monsoon in Kerala has raised concerns about potential weather-related risks in the bordering districts of Tamil Nadu. Authorities are urging residents in Coimbatore and Nilgiris to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
