Heavy rainfall in Valparai's estate areas of Coimbatore district has severely disrupted normal life. A landslide tragically killed a grandmother and granddaughter in their sleep at Solaiyar Dam area.

Coimbatore: Heavy rainfall continues to lash the estate areas surrounding Valparai in Coimbatore district, severely disrupting the daily lives of residents. The relentless downpour has led to a tragic incident, claiming two lives in the Solaiyar Dam area.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a grandmother and her granddaughter lost their lives when a mudslide struck their residence. The victims, identified as Rajeswari, 42, and Janapriya, 14, were asleep in their home located in the left bank area of Solaiyar Dam when the disaster struck.

The heavy overnight rain caused a nearby mud mound to collapse, burying the sleeping pair under debris and stones. The impact of the landslide severely damaged the house, tragically killing both Rajeswari and Janapriya instantly.

The grim discovery was made the following morning when neighbors noticed the destruction and alerted the local police. Law enforcement officials, along with local residents, rushed to the scene and worked to remove the debris, recovering the bodies of the deceased.

The bodies have been sent to the Valparai Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Local authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident and assessing the overall impact of the heavy rainfall in the region.

This tragic event underscores the dangers posed by heavy rains in hilly areas and the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures during monsoon seasons. Local administration is urged to take necessary steps to safeguard residents in vulnerable areas to prevent such heart-breaking incidents in the future.
