31st Annual Aadi Kundam Festival Begins at Mettuppalayam Vanabadraakaliyamman Temple

The 31st Aadi Kundam festival at Vanabadraakaliyamman Temple in Mettuppalayam, Coimbatore district, commenced with flag hoisting on July 28. The main event, Kundam Iranguthal, is scheduled for July 30.


Coimbatore: The 31st Annual Aadi Kundam Festival at the Vanabadraakaliyamman Temple in Mettuppalayam, Coimbatore district, began with a flag-hoisting ceremony on July 28. The festival, which started on July 23 with Poochatuthal (flower offering), has been marked by daily rituals including abhishekam, alangaram poojas, and laksharchana for Vanabadraakaliyamman.

The flag-hoisting ceremony, a significant event of the Aadi Kundam festival, took place on the morning of July 28 in the temple premises. Representatives from Thekkampatti village participated in the flag-hoisting event. A flag bearing the image of the goddess on a lion vehicle was hoisted on the temple flagpole in the presence of Thekkampatti village Gowder Thirunavukarasu.

The festival will continue with various rituals and events leading up to the main attraction, the Kundam Iranguthal (fire walking) ceremony. This key event of the Aadi Kundam festival is scheduled to take place on the morning of Tuesday, July 30.

The Aadi Kundam festival at Vanabadraakaliyamman Temple has been a significant annual event for the past 31 years, attracting devotees from the surrounding areas. The festival not only serves as a religious gathering but also as a cultural event that brings the community together.
