Coimbatore youth arrested under POCSO for sexually assaulting minor girl in Kashmir

A 17-year-old girl from Coimbatore was lured to Kashmir by a youth who sexually assaulted her. The accused was arrested under POCSO Act after the girl was rescued from Srinagar.

Coimbatore: A 17-year-old girl working in a textile shop in Coimbatore went missing on July 13 after leaving for work as usual. Unable to find her, her parents filed a complaint at the Peelamedu police station.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the girl had been in contact with Mohammed Ayaz, the son of the owner of a textile shop where she previously worked. Ayaz had been courting her for about a year, claiming to be in love with her. Coincidentally, Ayaz's parents had also reported him missing at the Karumbukkadai police station.

Further investigation led the police to discover that both the minor girl and Ayaz were staying in a rented room in Srinagar, Kashmir. The Coimbatore police coordinated with Kashmir police to locate and apprehend them.

A team from the Peelamedu All Women Police Station traveled to Kashmir to bring back the girl and the accused. During questioning, the girl revealed that Ayaz had been persuading her to elope, claiming that his family was looking for a bride for him at home. He convinced her to leave with him to get married.

On July 13, Ayaz took the girl to Kashmir, where he sexually assaulted her in the rented room under the pretext of marrying her. The police have registered a case against Mohammed Ayaz under four sections, including kidnapping and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused, Mohammed Ayaz, was arrested on July 25 by the Peelamedu All Women Police. The case is under further investigation.
