Coimbatore: The DMK council members of Coimbatore Corporation convened for a meeting today, July 24, at the DMK district office located on Cross Cut Road in Vadavalli, Coimbatore.

The meeting was presided over by N. Karthik, ex-MLA and Coimbatore Urban District Secretary of DMK. Also present were Tho. A. Ravi, Coimbatore North District Secretary, and Thalapathi Murugesan, Coimbatore South District Secretary. R. Karthikeyan, the DMK group leader in the Corporation, chaired the session.

Key attendees included Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan, whip R. Padmavathi, zonal chairpersons Lakshmi Ilanchelvi Karthik, Meena Logu, Kathirvel, and R. Dhanalakshmi. Standing committee chairpersons were also present, including P. Mariselvan (Health), Somu Santhosh (Town Planning), Shanthi Murugan (Works), Malathi (Parks and Education), Deepa Thalapathi Ilango (Accounts), and V.P. Mubashira (Taxation and Finance). M. Rajendran, member of the Appointments Committee, and other DMK council members participated in the meeting.

The gathering unanimously passed two significant resolutions. The first resolution expressed gratitude and appreciation to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin for his leadership and successful implementation of various welfare schemes. The resolution also highlighted the party's electoral victories since 2019 and expressed confidence in winning all 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The second resolution strongly criticized the Union Budget for allegedly neglecting Tamil Nadu's interests. The members condemned the perceived bias in fund allocation, particularly in disaster relief. They pointed out that while Tamil Nadu received only 276 crore rupees despite requesting 37,000 crores for disaster relief, states like Bihar were allocated 11,500 crores for disaster prevention work.

The resolution also expressed disappointment over the absence of any announcements regarding metro rail projects for Coimbatore and Madurai in the budget. The DMK council members viewed this as a deliberate neglect of Tamil Nadu's welfare and deemed it against the principles of federal cooperation.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan.
