Massive Water Wastage as Giant Pipeline Bursts Near Bettathapuram in Coimbatore

A major water pipeline burst near Bettathapuram in Coimbatore has led to massive water wastage and flooding of residential areas and agricultural lands, causing distress to local residents.

Coimbatore: A major water pipeline burst near Bettathapuram in Coimbatore district has resulted in the wastage of lakhs of liters of drinking water and flooding of residential areas and agricultural lands, causing significant distress to local residents.

The affected pipeline is part of the Coimbatore Vadavalli - Kavundampalayam - Thondamuthur Combined Drinking Water Scheme's second phase, which supplies Bhavani Athikadavu drinking water. The water is purified in the Chettipalayam area and then distributed through a massive pipeline that passes through Bettathapuram, Veerapandi, and Periyanaickenpalayam.

For the past month, a crack in the giant pipeline near Bettathapuram has been leaking water onto the road. Despite local residents informing the authorities, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) has not taken any action to address the issue.

The situation worsened when the crack expanded, causing the pipeline to burst and release a flood-like flow of water.

The gushing water has now entered nearby residential areas and agricultural lands, severely affecting the local population. Residents are facing numerous difficulties due to the flooding and are urging immediate action to repair the damaged pipeline.

Local residents have expressed their frustration with the authorities' lack of response and are demanding that the TWAD Board take swift measures to fix the pipeline and prevent further wastage of precious drinking water. They emphasize the urgent need for repairs to mitigate the impact on their daily lives and agricultural activities.
