Coimbatore: A 12-foot King Cobra was successfully rescued from MGR Nagar in Palappatti, near Mettupalayam, on July 21. The rescue operation, which lasted about two hours, was carried out by the forest department officials and skilled snake catchers.

Palappatti, located near Mettupalayam, is adjacent to a forest area. As a result, various wild animals, including elephants, deer, and wild buffaloes, occasionally enter the village. On July 21, residents of MGR Nagar in Palappatti spotted a King Cobra that appeared to be struggling to move. They immediately informed Sirumugai Forest Ranger Manoj Kumar about the situation.

Responding promptly, a team led by Sirumugai Forest Ranger Manoj Kumar and snake catchers headed by Kaja Maideen rushed to the spot. The rescue team faced challenges in approaching the highly venomous King Cobra, known for its deadly poison. However, the skilled snake catchers managed to capture the reptile safely after a grueling two-hour effort.

Following the rescue, forest officials conducted a thorough examination of the snake's health condition. It was observed that the King Cobra appeared weak, possibly due to not having consumed food recently. After providing necessary first aid, the forest department officials, with the assistance of the snake catchers, released the rescued King Cobra into the dense forest area of Kunjapanai.

The successful rescue and release of the King Cobra highlight the importance of human-wildlife conflict management and the quick response of the forest department in ensuring the safety of both wildlife and local residents.
