Coimbatore: A devastating car accident near Kaniyur Toll Plaza in Coimbatore district has resulted in the death of two college students and left two others injured. The incident occurred on July 17 when a group of five friends from Tiruppur district were returning home after visiting Coimbatore.

The deceased have been identified as Vishal and Bhoopesh, while two others are currently receiving treatment at government and private hospitals in Coimbatore. The fifth occupant's condition remains unclear.

According to police reports, the group of friends - Ibrahim, Vishal, Bhoopesh, Naren, and Pranav - were students at various colleges in Coimbatore. They had come to the city on July 17 and were on their way back to Tiruppur when the tragedy struck.

As their car approached the Kaniyur Toll Plaza in Coimbatore district, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and crashed into a barrier wall, completely crushing the vehicle on impact.

Vishal and Bhoopesh were pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

The Karumathampatti Police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident. Factors such as speed, road conditions, and potential mechanical failures are being examined.

This tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over Coimbatore, especially among the college student community. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for cautious driving, particularly on highways and near toll plazas.
