Residents Allege Worm Infestation in Kangeyam Municipality's Drinking Water Supply

Residents of Gandhipuram in Kangeyam, Tiruppur district, claim worms are present in the municipal water supply, raising health concerns for elderly and children. They demand immediate action from authorities.

Coimbatore: Residents of Gandhipuram in the 16th ward of Kangeyam municipality, Tiruppur district, have raised serious concerns about the quality of drinking water supplied by the local body. They allege that worms are being produced in the water, posing health risks, especially to the elderly and children in the area.

The affected area, located on Dharapuram Road (formerly 11th ward, now 16th ward), receives drinking water from the Amaravati Combined Water Supply Scheme and the Cauvery Combined Water Supply Scheme. However, residents claim that sewage water stagnates along the pathways where drinking water pipes are laid, leading to contamination.

Residents further allege that garbage and dust particles are mixing with the drinking water supply. This contamination has reportedly led to health issues among the elderly and children living in the area. Despite multiple complaints to the municipal administration, no action has been taken to address the problem, according to the residents.

Frustrated with the lack of response, the residents are now demanding immediate intervention from the district administration. They have warned that if no action is taken soon, they will be forced to stage a protest by besieging the municipal administration office.

The situation highlights the urgent need for proper maintenance of water supply infrastructure and regular quality checks to ensure safe drinking water for all residents. As the issue continues to escalate, it remains to be seen how quickly the authorities will respond to these serious allegations and take steps to resolve the drinking water crisis in Kangeyam.
