New Bi-Weekly Train Service Launched from Mettupalayam to Thoothukudi

A new bi-weekly train service from Mettupalayam to Thoothukudi has been launched, and three MEMU train services will be extended to Podanur, benefiting rail passengers in Coimbatore and surrounding areas.

Coimbatore: In a significant development for rail connectivity in Tamil Nadu, a new bi-weekly train service has been launched between Mettupalayam and Thoothukudi. This initiative comes as a result of persistent efforts by rail passenger associations in Coimbatore and Thoothukudi districts, along with support from various stakeholders.

The Southern Railway has also announced that out of the existing five daily services, three Mettupalayam to Coimbatore MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train services will be extended to Podanur. This extension is expected to provide better connectivity for passengers traveling beyond Coimbatore city.

Rail passengers in Coimbatore district have expressed their appreciation for the efforts taken by elected representatives, railway authorities, and media teams for their continuous support in securing these improved services. The associations have acknowledged the collective effort that led to this positive outcome for the traveling public.

These new services are anticipated to significantly benefit a large number of passengers, providing them with more convenient travel options by train. The bi-weekly service to Thoothukudi, in particular, will enhance long-distance connectivity from the western part of Tamil Nadu to the southern coast.

The introduction of these new services and extensions reflects the railways' responsiveness to public demand and the importance of community engagement in improving transportation infrastructure. It is expected to boost both passenger convenience and regional connectivity in the long run.
