Woman's 2-sovereign gold chain stolen on bus in Coimbatore

A 55-year-old woman's 2-sovereign gold chain was stolen on a government bus in Coimbatore. The incident occurred while she was traveling from Malumichampatti to Gandhipuram on July 12.


Coimbatore: A 55-year-old woman fell victim to a theft on a government bus in Coimbatore, losing her 2-sovereign gold chain to an unidentified person who took advantage of the crowded vehicle.

Jayalakshmi, wife of Ganesan from Anbu Nagar Housing Unit in Malumichampatti, Coimbatore, works at a biryani shop on Thudiyalur Road. On July 12, she boarded a government bus from Malumichampatti to travel to Gandhipuram.

During the journey, amidst the crowded bus, an unidentified person skillfully removed the 2-sovereign gold chain from Jayalakshmi's neck without her noticing. The theft came to light only after she reached her destination.

Shocked by the incident, Jayalakshmi immediately filed a complaint at the Kadeisalai (Gandhipuram) Police Station. Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprit.

This incident highlights the need for passengers to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings, especially in crowded public transport. The police are likely to review any available CCTV footage from the bus or nearby areas to track down the thief.
