Fatal NMS Jet Private Bus Accident in Karamadai: One Dead, One Injured

A private bus accident in Karamadai, Coimbatore, resulted in one fatality and one severe injury. The bus also rammed a median while being shifted from the accident spot.

Coimbatore: A tragic accident occurred on Friday evening when a private bus, 'NMS Jet', veered out of control on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road in Karamadai, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old man and severely injuring another person.

The deceased was identified as Murugan, a resident of Jadayampalayam, who worked for a wholesale egg supplier. The incident took place at 5:48 p.m. when Murugan was returning empty trays to his stationary van after supplying eggs to a shop.

The bus, which was reportedly being driven negligently, swerved off the road and struck Murugan and another man who was sitting on his scooter. While the scooter rider was thrown to the left side, Murugan was tragically trapped between the bus and his egg-laden van. The bus continued to drag the van for some distance before coming to a halt.

Murugan died on the spot due to the impact. The entire incident was captured by a surveillance camera of a nearby shop, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.

The Karamadai police reported that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. The injured man was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

In a bizarre turn of events, the same bus was involved in another incident while being shifted from the accident spot. It rammed into a median approximately 200 meters away from the initial accident site.

The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, focusing on locating the absconding driver and determining the cause of the accident. The authorities are also examining the bus company's safety records and the driver's background as part of their inquiry.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, especially for public transport vehicles. Local residents have called for increased police patrolling and speed monitoring on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road to prevent such accidents in the future.

The Karamadai police have urged any witnesses to come forward with information that could assist in their investigation. They have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of reckless driving, particularly by public transport vehicles.
