MP A. Raja Inaugurates Bus Services to Tribal Villages from Mettupalayam Bus Stand

Nilgiris MP A. Raja flagged off new bus services from Mettupalayam to tribal villages on July 11, improving connectivity for residents of Nellithurai and surrounding areas.


Coimbatore: Nilgiris MP and DMK Deputy General Secretary A. Raja inaugurated new bus services from Mettupalayam bus stand to tribal villages on Tuesday morning. The initiative aims to enhance connectivity for residents of Nellithurai and its surrounding areas, including Vilamarathur, Nandavanaputhur, Poothapallam, Mel Kuravan Kandi, Keezh Kuravan Kandi, Ezhuthukal Puthur, Athikadavu, Manaru, Sorandy, and Koodapatti.

The new services were introduced in response to petitions from local residents who had approached MP A. Raja requesting additional bus facilities for their areas. As a result, the existing bus route from Mettupalayam to Nellithurai has been extended to Vilamarathur. Similarly, the government bus service that previously operated from Mettupalayam to Karamadai, Thayanur, Velliyangadu, and Koodapatti has been extended to Mel Kuravan Kandi.

The extended services will operate with buses departing from Mettupalayam to Vilamarathur at 4:30 PM, and to Mel Kuravan Kandi twice daily, in the morning and evening.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several officials and dignitaries, including Sridhar, General Manager of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Coimbatore, Ganapathy, General Manager of TNSTC Ooty, Radhakrishnan and Velusamy, Branch Managers of Mettupalayam, and Thondamuthur Ravi, District Secretary. Other notable attendees included former MLA P. Arunkumar, DMK Executive Committee members Ashraf Ali and T.R. Shanmugasundaram, Mettupalayam Municipal Chairperson Mehriba Parveen, Vice Chairperson Arul Vadivu, and Kotagiri Municipal Chairperson Arivarasu.

Union Secretaries Surendran and S.M.D. Kalyanasundaram, City Secretaries Mohammed Yunus and Munusamy, along with key administrators and trade union officials, also participated in the event.

The introduction of these new bus services is expected to significantly improve transportation options for residents of tribal villages, facilitating easier access to Mettupalayam and enhancing their connectivity to other parts of the region.
