Residents Stage Road Blockade in Pollachi Over Water Shortage

Residents of Mullai Nagar in Angalakurichi near Pollachi staged a road blockade with empty pots, protesting against the panchayat administration's failure to supply drinking water for 15 days.

Coimbatore: Residents of Mullai Nagar in Angalakurichi, near Anaimalai, staged a road blockade on the Pollachi-Valparai main road to protest against the lack of drinking water supply for the past 15 days. The demonstration took place near the Kaikatti area, with protesters carrying empty pots to symbolize their plight.

Mullai Nagar, a residential area in Angalakurichi, is home to over 500 families. According to the residents, they have not received any drinking water supply for the past 15 days. The protesters claim that the DMK-led Angalakurichi panchayat administration has not taken any action to address this issue, despite repeated complaints.

Frustrated by the lack of response, more than a hundred residents from Mullai Nagar gathered on the Pollachi-Valparai main road near the Kaikatti area yesterday evening. They blocked the road with empty pots, demanding immediate resolution to their water crisis.

Upon receiving information about the protest, local police and officials rushed to the scene. They engaged in discussions with the protesters and assured them that proper water supply would be restored soon. Following this assurance, the residents called off their protest and dispersed.

The road blockade caused traffic disruptions on the Pollachi-Valparai road for over an hour, affecting commuters and vehicles passing through the area. The incident highlights the growing concern over water scarcity in the region and the need for prompt action from local authorities to address such basic amenities.
