Coimbatore Escapes water-logging Threat: Commissioner's Swift Action Ensures Normalcy

Coimbatore city avoids waterlogging despite moderate rainfall, thanks to Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran's proactive measures. Garbage removal at Ukkadam Big Tank intensifies using modern machinery.

Coimbatore: The city of Coimbatore has successfully avoided flood-like situations despite moderate rainfall, thanks to the timely interventions by Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran. Areas including Ukkadam, Sungam, Ramanathapuram, Gandhipuram, Sundarapuram, Gaundampalayam, Selvapuram, Town Hall, and Sai Baba Colony have been experiencing moderate rain since last night.

Despite the overcast sky and intermittent showers, the city's roads remain free from waterlogging, allowing normal life to continue uninterrupted.

Traffic flow and public movement remain smooth, a stark contrast to previous years when main roads and bridges would typically flood during rainfall.

The change is attributed to the swift action taken by Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran. Under his directives, intensive drainage works were carried out in flood-prone areas, effectively preventing water stagnation. This proactive approach has significantly altered the city's response to rainfall, ensuring that citizens can go about their daily routines without hindrance.

Meanwhile, as the rain continues, the city administration is also addressing another pressing issue - garbage accumulation. At the Ukkadam Big Tank, which falls under the Smart City project area, a massive clean-up operation is underway. The area saw a surge of visitors on Sunday, resulting in increased littering of food waste and other debris.

This morning, Smart City project workers were seen using modern machinery, including a clamper vehicle, to efficiently remove the accumulated waste. The clean-up drive aims to maintain the cleanliness of this popular public space and prevent potential health hazards.

The dual focus on flood prevention and waste management demonstrates the city administration's commitment to improving Coimbatore's urban infrastructure and quality of life for its residents. As the monsoon season progresses, these measures are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining the city's resilience against weather-related challenges.
