Illegal Logging of Valuable Trees Along Irrigation Canal Near Udumalpet Causes Stir

Farmers near Udumalpet discover large-scale illegal logging of valuable trees along an irrigation canal. The incident, occurring over several days, has sparked controversy and demands for action.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident that has stirred controversy, valuable trees worth several lakhs of rupees have been illegally felled and smuggled from the banks of an irrigation canal near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district. The affected area is along the distribution canal of the Thirumoorthy Dam irrigation system in the Poolavadi-Pennapuram region.

The canal, which provides irrigation to thousands of acres of agricultural land, has been the site of unauthorized logging activities for the past few days. Perpetrators have been operating both during the day and night, cutting down trees of significant value along the canal's embankments.

The incident came to light when local farmers, acting on information about nighttime logging activities, rushed to the spot. However, the culprits managed to flee the scene before they could be apprehended. The farmers are now demanding immediate action against those responsible for this large-scale tree felling.

Questions have arisen regarding the legality of the logging operation. It remains unclear whether proper permissions were obtained for cutting down the trees or if this was entirely an illegal activity. The farmers are urging authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against those involved in what appears to be unauthorized deforestation.

This incident of extensive tree cutting along the irrigation canal near Udumalpet has not only caused environmental concern but also sparked a debate about the security and preservation of valuable natural resources in the region. Local authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the matter as the community awaits answers and action.
