Coimbatore to Implement Roadside Parking Scheme to Reduce Parking Issues - Announces Corporation Commissioner

Coimbatore Corporation, in collaboration with the city police, plans to introduce a roadside parking scheme in busy areas to reduce traffic congestion and provide organized parking facilities for residents.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is set to launch a new initiative in partnership with the Coimbatore City Police to address the growing parking issues and traffic congestion in the bustling streets of the city. This move aims to provide organized parking facilities for residents while simultaneously reducing traffic bottlenecks.

Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran recently announced that the current state of roadside parking is disorganized, with vehicles parked haphazardly for extended periods, contributing to traffic congestion. To combat this issue, the Corporation and City Police have been deliberating on implementing a systematic roadside parking scheme.

The proposed plan includes introducing paid parking in designated areas. Several locations have been identified for this purpose, including Race Course, Cross Cut Road, Big Bazaar Street, Raja Street, Range Gowder Street, Variety Hall Road, NSR Road, and Bharathi Park. The scheme will involve hourly parking fees for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Commissioner Prabhakaran stated that the Corporation plans to pass a resolution regarding this scheme in the upcoming council meeting. This initiative is expected to bring order to the city's parking situation and alleviate traffic concerns in high-density areas.

The implementation of this roadside parking scheme reflects the city administration's proactive approach to urban challenges, aiming to enhance the quality of life for Coimbatore's residents by improving traffic flow and providing structured parking solutions.
