Tourist Access to Azhiyar Kaviaruvi Restricted Due to Heavy Rainfall

Due to intense southwest monsoon rains in areas under Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, the Forest Department has restricted tourist access to Azhiyar Kaviaruvi citing sudden flood and safety concerns.

Coimbatore: In the wake of severe southwest monsoon rains enhancing over the past two days in the regions belonging to Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, heavy rainfall was recorded in Valparai, Shanmuga Estate, and Attakatti areas. The escalating rains led to a sudden flood at Azhiyar Kaviaruvi, located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, which are under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department. As a result, the protective barriers have been reported as broken.

The Forest Department has, therefore, imposed a restriction on the entry to Azhiyar Kaviaruvi for tourists, considering their safety. This decision follows the observation of dangerously high water levels that have compromised the safety structures in place at the popular tourist attraction.

The department has indicated that the water flow is currently reducing, and once all protective barriers are adequately repaired, they will consider reopening the area to tourists. Tourists are advised to follow updates from the Forest Department regarding when it will be safe to visit the area again.
