Lawyers Protest Against Renaming of Major Laws into Sanskrit at Coimbatore Integrated Court Complex

Over 20 lawyers protested at Coimbatore Integrated Court Complex against the renaming of major Indian laws into Sanskrit, asserting it as an imposition by the central government effective from July 1.

Coimbatore: Lawyers from the All India Advocates Association gathered in large numbers at the Coimbatore Integrated Court Complex today to protest against the Central Government's recent move to rename major laws into Sanskrit. The laws, including the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, are set to adopt their new names from July 1, highlighting a nationwide wave of opposition to this change.

The protestors argued that renaming laws into Sanskrit is an attempt by the Union Government to enforce cultural hegemony and bypass various objections to such legislative changes. They vehemently condemned this effort and called it a direct assault on the democratic values of the country.

Continuing their outcry, the lawyers demanded an immediate halt to this initiative, urging the Central Government to reconsider its decisions. They expressed firm resistance to what they see as an authoritarian move, stressing the importance of preserving diversity in the legal framework of India.
