Protest in Ukkadam Calls for Withdrawal of UAPA Case Against Arundhati Roy

Various progressive organizations rallied in Ukkadam, Coimbatore, demanding the withdrawal of the UAPA case against writer Arundhati Roy and professor Shoukath Hussain, sanctioned by the central government.


Coimbatore: A substantial protest was organized in Ukkadam by various leftist democratic groups condemning the central government's approval of a UAPA case against writer Arundhati Roy and professor Shoukath Hussain. The demonstration was spearheaded by K. Balasubramanian, district secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).

Prominent figures like Balasundaram, a central committee member, Sekar Annadurai from People’s Civil Rights Organization, Peros Babu from Revolutionary Youth Association, Philomina of All India Progressive Women's Association, and Ravikumar from Adi Tamil Peravai vehemently spoke against the charges. The protest saw active participation from lawyers Malaravan, Louis K. Thomas, and Marxist-Leninists, including Nehru Das and Venkatachalam.
