Coimbatore Student Alleges College Demands Excessive Fees for Transfer Certificate

A student and his father have filed a complaint at the District Collector's Office in Coimbatore against SNS College for allegedly demanding Rs 1.5 lakh to issue a transfer certificate.

Coimbatore: Vaishnav, a student from Thrissur, Kerala, currently studying B.Tech first year at SNS College located in Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore, alleges that the college demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh to issue his transfer certificate. Following an attack by fellow students Yasin, Habin, Riscil, and Lithin, Vaishnav expressed a desire to discontinue his education at SNS College. The administration reportedly asked for the payment of Rs. 1,27,000, covering three years' fee, for issuing the certificate.

During a recent visit to obtain the certificate, the college dean and principal allegedly informed him that the payment was necessary for release of the certificate and further decisions would be deferred until a board meeting. They also stated that actions would be taken against the attackers' parents after an investigation. Vaishnav and his father, distressed by the situation, have sought administrative intervention from the District Collector, filing their grievances on June 19.
